HOW DO WE PRACTICE THE SEASONS?

Frontier Church celebrates three seasons: Easter, Pentecost, and Advent. During each of these seasons, we are committed to preaching a seasonal sermon series and providing individuals, communities and families with guides to help you integrate these seasons into your rhythms:

  • Advent: these four weeks in December help us re-imagine Israel’s hope for a coming Messiah that climaxes in Christmas, and this re-imagining helps us hope for our Messiah’s second coming.

  • Lent: these four weeks that climax in Easter remind us that, through self-denial, we mystically share the sufferings of our crucified Christ and, if we participate in his cross, we will participate in his resurrection and glory.

  • Pentecost: these two weeks in May remind us that after Jesus’ resurrection, he sent his Holy Spirit to fill believers and gather the church together.

At a practical level, this means that 10 weeks out of the calendar year will be devoted to the liturgical calendar: Advent (4 weeks), Lent (4 weeks), and Pentecost (2 weeks). We believe that God will use this strategy to help us understand that the story of Jesus is not something that we only read about on the pages of the Bible but, like characters and actors, it is something that we live into and lives within us, like oxygen and blood.
